World of Instructional Design
My name is Janelle Ha, and although I have been a Trainer
for over seven years, I am new to the Instructional Design world. My main focus
as a trainer was to design in-person training for small and large groups of
individuals. As the pandemic made its presence in our world and changed how we
conduct business, I have had to adapt and learn new strategies and methods to
effectively train individuals from their convenience and safety of their homes.
There have been numerous challenges and difficulties that I have encountered along
the way; however, it would not be a learning process without any.
Nevertheless, it ultimately led me to the decision to continue my education and sharpen my tools and skills by re-entering the world
of virtual learning. In doing so, I signed up to receive my degree in MS Instructional
Design and Technology from Walden University. This is a decision I did not take
lightly. Over the many years, I have contemplated on what direction to take. My
BS degree was in Early Childhood Education, which I received back in 2008. After
I graduated, my goal was to move out of the classroom and not teach the young
children but to become a Trainer for a Child Development Center and instruct
the educators that will be teaching and molding our society's young minds.
Once I had finally reached
that goal and began to develop my knowledge and expertise as a Trainer, I started
to think about what my next step was going to be. Looking at the various Master's
programs available, nothing sparked my interest. I did not want to re-enter the
classroom and get my Master's in Early Childhood Education and limit my opportunities
to span into other work environments, nor did I want to move into a Director's
position within the Early Childhood realm. I was left with my thoughts of what
more can I do to elevate myself, did I want to be doing the same things for the
rest of my life, and was there any other ways that I can help and influence
those around me.
I believe that I made the right decision to open a new
chapter in my life and pursue the skills and knowledge to be an Instructional
Designer. I can influence the world
using my creativity and my people skills to make a positive impression and
impact on those around me.
Although I have a lot to say, I have never really formulated
my thoughts and opinions down on pen and paper, or nowadays, keyboard and
screen. I look forward to sharing my thoughts with you all in my new world of Instructional
Design!
Sincerely,
Janelle Ha
